Routes into the Achterhoek

Our Holterveldse Hoeve is situated on the Holterveld in the hamlet Bekveld, slightly south west of Hengelo (Gld.)
Our holiday homes are located in the midst of four ancient commercial towns called Doesburg, Zutphen, Bronckhorst and Doetinchem, and the villages Vorden, Ruurlo and Zelhem. All through the Summer season these towns and villages celebrate their own festivities, most of which are typical to the Achterhoek.

Time seems to pass slower in the Achterhoek

Routes to and from the Holterveldse Hoeve lead along fields, meadows, forrest and farms, perfect surroundings for long walks, rides or drives. Most routes are narrow country roads through the Achterhoeks landscape, where there's always some nice or interesting to see

Sightseeing and other activities

You can find Europes biggest maze just 11 kilometers (roughly 7 miles) before the town of Ruurlo. Somewhat closer in the same stretch of forrest you can eat Dutch pancakes in the famous pancakefarm "De Heikamp".

In the direct vicinity of the Holterveldse Hoeve you'll find the "Acht Kastelenroute" (Route along eight Castles) - some are actually open to the public - and a number of "LF-routes" (Landelijke Fiets-routes, National Bicycle Routes). If you fancy a picknick out in the open these routes are the place to be.
The smallest town of the Netherlands, Bronckhorst, can be found only 7 kilometers (less than 4.5 miles) north west of the Hoeve. It welcomes tourists with its Dickens Museum, antique shows, a tipical tearoom, a local cheese vendor, a gem store and many other attractions. Just a walk through the narrow streets is worth while the trip.

A night out, shopping, culture tours

Bigger town like Doetinchem (8 km / 5 miles), Doesburg (9 km / 6 miles) and Zutphen (11 km / 7 miles) offer a variety of shops, musea, bars and cafe's. You can have a night on the town until way past bedtime.., find many good restaurants and have a great time shopping. Young people may want to try the night life of Doetinchem.
We will be glad to advise you about all the many posibilities of spending time in the Achterhoek. While offering all the specialties of country living, the Achterhoek also offers as many notable activities as any big European town.
